Dear Claire,
I'm writing to share some good news with you!
Do you remember thephotography competition held by the local magazine that I mentioned last time we met? The theme was natural view, which is exactly what I'm good at. So I participated in it and, luckily, I won the third prize, which is two tickets to the cinema in the city centre!
I'd like to share the award with you because I think you're also the author of the work I submitted! It was the sunset by the seaside we shot in Australia last winter.Without your discovery of the seagull that was flying through the cloud, I wouldn't have been able to capture the amazing moment and win the contest.
How about meeting at the gate of the cinema this Saturday? There are 5 different types of movies on recently and we can just decide which one to watch when we get there.Just tell me what time you prefer, in the morning or the afternoon.
With love,
Mandy

大作文:Nowadays, more and more people rely on driving as their major means of transportation instead of walking or cycling. Does this trend have more advantages or more disadvantages?
范文:262 words.
It is true that traveling by car has become more popular than other forms of transportation in recent years. In my view, there are more drawbacks to this trend despite the economic benefit it can bring.
The primary advantage of people's reliance on driving is that it can boost the growth of the economy. The rising demand for private cars will not only generate a boom in automobile manufacturing but also create prosperity in relevant industries like advertising, marketing, sales, and maintenance. A typical example of this is China, where the auto industry is the second largest domestic economic growth driver, accounting for about 10% of the total GDP.
However, I would argue that there are more disadvantages to relying on private vehicles. Firstly, it is detrimental to the environment. Research shows that the fumes emitted from cars is responsible for 30% of the carbon emissions in large Chinese cities. Even though electric cars are gaining popularity, fuel vehicles still dominate the market, meaning a longer time and more efforts to be taken to tackle air pollution. Secondly, drivers are more likely to suffer health issues than pedestrians or cyclers because of the sedentary lifestyle. Long-time driving will cause pains in the neck, back and shoulder, which may result in more serious diseases in the long run. Finally, the growing number of cars will result in traffic congestion and increase the likelihood of accidents.
In conclusion, although the rising use of cars is beneficial to the economy, I believe that it has more negative effects on society and people in various ways.
